    Aisthesis

    Aisthesis comes from the Greek for perceiving through all the senses, including the imprint that perception leaves on the body—intellectual, physical, and emotional. The ocean has the capacity to smooth the body and mind, ironing out their tensions. In the portraits, this is visible as a quiet satisfaction and openness—an exhalation into a serene state of being.

    Water, the essence of life, invites a return to a primordial state, conscious or unconscious. Our heart rhythms synchronize with its tides; our blood, saline like the sea, moves in quiet resonance. The ocean is the most ancient threshold on our planet.

    The Gulf thunderheads and the New Mexico high desert are places I dwell—landscapes that draw my attention to the illusory, dreamlike nature of existence: the speed at which moments shift, the songs of the universe, perpetual motion mirrored in both the clouds above and the depths below.
